Elves!
First a decision has been made to wirte the blog in english. I think it's worth a try, even if my english is somewhat rusty. For the international members of the Highlander Online League it´s just fair, if they can read the blog, too. So i really would appreciate the comments to be in english also. Non-english comment will not be deleted, but i will answer in english only.
As the title already stated i will write about the deck i'm playing in the league at the moment: Elves!. Watching the deck develop from the Extended Elves at Pro Tour Berlin to the Standard Deck from Japanese Nationals i wondered if it was possible to transfer the combo pieces into a highlander deck. There was already the deck of Patrick Terp, who finished in the Top8 at GP IV. But i didn't like the deck that much, because it featured many cards i did not want to play. So i took the deck as a ground base, crossed out all cards i didn't like and looked threw the new Extended and Standard elves to find cards to fill the deck. My approach was to get something like the combo of Heritage Druid and Nettle Sentinel into the deck. With just one of each the combo does not work like in the aformentioned decks, but i think for Highlander it's good enough. The plan is to get some mana elves, play Glimpse of Nature or Regal Force, find Mirror Entity and kill with some guys with +x/+x. Even if you can't find the Entity, there is some protection against Wrath etc. like Dauntless Escort, Burrenton Forge-Tender and Caller of the Claw to survive with a board full of men (elves).

The last changes i made were yesterday evening, after discussing the decklist with Roland Bode:
- Viridian Shaman, Urbord Elf, Elvish Harbinger, Sword of Fire and Ice, Fierce Empath, Naturalize,Gaea's Anthem
+ Thornscape Battlemage, Seeker of Skybreak, Deranged Hermit, Ravages of War, Selesnya Guildmage, Seal of Primordium, Wilt-Leaf Liege
The Battlemage came in for Viridian Shaman because i can cast him without destroying an artifact and there could be the possibility to cast him with red mana for 2 damage.
Urborg Elf was one of the cards i really was not sure about to maindeck him. As i play only one black card in Demonic, i think i can afford to take him out. Seeker of Skybreak is like the whole deck a card that can really be broken in the right situation.
The Elvish Harbinger was always to slow. The tutor-ability is nice, but most of the time you want the card right in your hand. Deranged Hermit has a huge impact on the board and can win the games without any Mirror Entity-action.
Roland took the land destruction like Armageddon and Ravages into the discussion but we agreed that we did not have space for the two of them, so there's just one in the deck at the moment. Against control-decks it should be good game, if you have some mana-elves and cast the Ravages. The Sword of Fire and Ice went out as i don't want to focuss on beatdown so much. But i'm not sure if this is the right call.
Selesnya Guildmage is another mana sink to win games with. I had to go into the deck. As was getting short of cards to cut i took out Fierce Empath. I don't know if he should stay in the deck, but most of the time the Guildmage should be better.
Seal of Primordium seems to be better most of the time then Naturalize
As does Wilt-Leaf Liege win the compasison against Gaea's Anthem being a creature i can search for.
That's it for today. I hope we can discuss some of the card choices in the comments. Alternatives are warmly welcome. I will write another entry referring to deck list as well, explaining some of the cards.
Cheers
